Storage Tips

Choose a storage unit that has ventilation. Leave room for air to circulate around items as well as between stored goods and walls. You may want to purchase plastic covers for your sofas and mattresses to keep them clean and dust free. An old blanket, not plastic, is best for wooden furniture.

For maximum accessibility, leave an aisle to the back wall. If you won't be accessing your goods, pack the storage unit tightly to maximize space.

Tables with removable legs should be dismantled to maximize your storage space.

Depending on what you’re storing, you may consider insuring your stored items through a reputable insurance company. If you currently have homeowner’s or renter’s insurance, contact your agent to find out if your policy will cover stored items.

Use the vertical space of your storage unit. Sofas and loveseats can be stored on end to save floor space. Always place a protective cover under the end on the floor. Cushions should be wrapped in plastic and placed on top.

Store mirrors and pictures on edge, not flat.

Wipe metal items with light oil. Drain gas and oil from motorcycles, lawn mowers or any small engine
